Mobile memory: travelling museums and neglected narratives in post-communist Poland

In the public discourse, memory, defined in an array of different ways, is being instrumentalized and performed to re-produce identities, enunciate interests and justify policies. Museums occupy a crucial role in this process of creation and re-creation of memory narratives, and by extension identity discourses. This project explores interactions between memory narratives created and transmitted by institutions, groups and individuals of various ages, genders and cultural backgrounds. The central focus of this research is the movement and transmission of memory in the era of global digitization and instant communication. Two travelling projects of POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews will be studied over the period of two years using a range of qualitative methods: semi-structured interviews, observations, questionnaires as well as the analysis of articles, posts, photos and comments published in the printed and online media and social networking sites.
