Prospective Students

As the AHRC grant that LAHP is co-funded by is coming to an end, the consortium will not be awarding any new studentships beyond the 2025/26 intake. Therefore, no new funded studentships will be available from LAHP from 2026 onwards. Prospective students are advised to check with the respective universities regarding alternative funding sources.

Please see the UKRI website for more information about their new funding model.

Open Studentship Competition 2025/26 entry

The Open Studentship Competition is now open, with a deadline at 5pm on Friday, 31 January 2025. Applicants develop their proposal in discussion with a prospective supervisor. They are required to apply for a place at one of LAHP’s partner HEIs before submitting an application to LAHP. Open awards are funded for up to three years full-time (or part-time equivalent), with the opportunity to apply for a funded extension based on research needs, after enrolment.

Please note that the initial length of funding offered will be reduced for students who start their research programme/project before the funding commences.

Collaborative Doctoral Awards (CDAs) 2025/26 entry

Collaborative Doctoral Awards support postgraduate research in collaboration with an external partner. There are two stages to the CDA competition:

  1. Project Proposal Stage: Prospective academic supervisors from one of LAHP’s eight HEI partners may apply for a CDA between July and October 2024. CDA project proposals must be developed as a partnership between an HEI-based academic in collaboration with an organisation outside higher education, and either with or without a nominated student. Nominated students can also be involved in the development of the proposal. Successful projects are announced in November 2024, and those awarded without a nominated student are advertised in early December 2024 (see second stage below).
  2. Student Recruitment Stage: Successful projects without a nominated student open for recruitment on 2 December 2024 with an application deadline of 31 January 2025. CDAs are funded for 3.5 years (full-time) or 7 years (part-time) recognising the additional work involved in a collaborative studentship. CDA students are also entitled to a £600 per annum (2024/25 rate) stipend top-up, and have opportunity to apply for a funded extension based on research needs, after enrolment.
