"To Paint the Soul": Anatomy, Life and Soul in Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century Europe

The project examines how ideas about life, physiology and soul changed in Europe over the course of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and considers the trends that drove these changes, with a particular focus on developments in anatomy. In so doing, the project looks to engage with broader questions surrounding the decline of Aristotelian philosophy in the period, and the rise of the mechanical philosophy.
