Belonging in the British Army: Investigating identity and the self through corporeality
My project will investigate the corporeality – understood as experiences of the physical body – of service personnel in the British Army to examine how notions of identity and the self are forged through military culture. I will use mixed methods to critically assess how military discourses of equality and diversity are constructed as well as experienced and understood by personnel in interactions with each other and the military institution. My research will contribute to a large body of scholarship spanning critical military studies, feminist and gender studies, to offer new empirical findings on the corporeal entanglements of military service.
