El Pueblo Unido - mobility and migration in an Andalusian village
This project investigates how labour migration changes and maintains intergenerational structures of economic and social reproduction in rural Andalucía, Spain. This has long been a crucial part of the local economy, as villages are crisscrossed by mobilities ranging from labour migration to Northern Europe, incoming migration from North Africa and Latin America, tourism, rural-to-urban emigration, and seasonal lifestyle migration. Engaging with the tension between continuity and change described by regional anthropologies, this study responds to contemporary academic and public interest in diverse mobilities and their impact on rural life by centring the village at the heart of knowledge co-production.
