LAHP Study Day 1: Beginning PhD Research

When: Tuesday 14 October 2025, 9am – 5pm

This is a compulsory study day for all new students joining us in October, designed to provide a strong foundation for the start of their doctoral journey. Returning students are invited to attend on an optional basis, should they wish to refresh their knowledge.

The programme offers a comprehensive introduction to key aspects of doctoral research, including:

  • Research design and methodology
  • Making the most of your supervision
  • The shape of the PhD and writing the thesis core
  • Disciplinary and interdisciplinary research

In addition, we will have important sessions on Allyship and Online Safety, tailored specifically to the needs and experiences of postgraduate researchers. These sessions aim to foster a supportive, inclusive, and secure research environment.

Throughout the day you will have opportunities to engage with peers, ask questions, and reflect on your research goals. Lunch will be provided along with morning and afternoon refreshments.

We look forward to welcoming you and supporting the beginning of your research journey!
