LAHP Study Day 2: Politics, practices and poetics of the PhD

When: Wednesday 29 October 2025, 9:30am – 5:30pm

This study day is open to all students, and we strongly encourage everyone to attend.

This programme offers a structured and stimulating exploration of key academic practices and frameworks for postgraduate researchers. Whether you’re just beginning your research journey or looking to deepen your understanding, the sessions are tailored to provide valuable insights and practical tools.

The day will feature sessions on:

  • Understanding the distinctions between chapters, essays, and articles
  • Citation: Practice and Politics / What is a literature review and how to position oneself?
  • Trans Awareness for PGRs, fostering inclusive and respectful research environments
  • Category analysis and defining the object of study within your research

In the afternoon, participants will choose between two concurrent breakout sessions: one focused on case study models and their application in research, and the other on reading critical theory and developing a critical framework.

Throughout the day, there will be plenty of opportunities to engage in discussion and ask questions. Tea, coffee, lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Please register to attend here

Registration closes 23 October 2025.
