Blood and Spirit: Embodied forms of resistance and their implications for the development of a liberatory arts practice.

This research project investigates historical and contemporary forms of resistance against colonial and capitalist oppression across the Caribbean and Europe, with Dominica and the UK being key research sites.

Through an embodied and interdisciplinary approach to gathering and sharing research with(in) local communities, this project will explore the power of embodied and durational performance, sound, protest and physical interventions in enacting social change. Anti-colonial indigenous Kalinago and Afro-diasporic resistance in the Caribbean, as well as anti-capitalist and counter-cultural movements in Europe will inform the development of new performance practices which address class, race, sexuality and connections to (home)land.
