Challenges of Practice Based Research
Tuesday 10th November 2020, 10am-1pm, taking place remotely
This session explores the relation between theoretical and practical knowledge. This relationship has been long debated, especially within visual arts practices, music, theatre and performance, all of which have experienced a rapid development of ‘practice-based’ models of research. Today, the Research Excellence Framework expects to receive work in a wider range of formats from the traditional monograph to practice-based submissions. Such work raises questions: is practice research a method, and does it require written contextual and thus more ‘traditional’ ways of framing it? In this seminar, we will work alongside practitioners and theorists of practice, to explore some of the opportunities that exist within any practice-based research project.
