We are very pleased to invite you to the 2024 LAHP Annual Research Day which will take place in person and via live streaming on Tuesday 14th May 10:30am to 6pm at the Royal College of Music in South Kensington. This is a brilliant opportunity to meet fellow students across LAHP cohorts, and to share your work in a fun and relaxed way. More details on how you can participate below! The event will include morning tea and coffee, lunch, and a drinks reception at the end of the day.

We hope that as many of you as possible will be able to attend the event in person and encourage students from all cohorts to join us and think about their research collectively. The event will include short student presentations, a 3-minute thesis competition, a photo competition, and a presentation from a keynote speaker.

Please book your place by 23rd April via the online form. If you would like to participate in the event (as outlined below) you can confirm this in the online form.

Event programme:

Keynote speaker: Professor Joanna Zylinska, Professor of Media Philosophy + Critical Digital Practice at King’s College London. In her presentation, Joanna will be looking at artificial intelligence within the arts and humanities.

Present your research (15-minute slot): We have 5 slots available for this and we are keen to hear about the research project you are working on. Presenters are invited to present their project in a format of their choice, so be as creative as you like! Presentations will be followed by a group Q&A.

If you would like to present your research, please note this in the online booking form (link above) by 23rd April.

3-minute thesis competition: We invite you to take part in the ‘3-minute thesis’ competition, which is a lively and low-pressure way to give others an idea of what you are working on and to hear about the wide range of projects being pursued by other LAHP students. You have 3 minutes to summarise your research as best as possible, with the aid of one slide.

If you would like to take part in the 3-minute thesis competition, please note this in the online booking form (link above) by 23rd April.

Photo competition: We are asking all participants to enter a photograph in advance of the day on the theme of their research. With your permission, we would then like to use some of your images for our website (with author credits of course). Photo entries will be published in advance of the event, and you will have the opportunity to vote online for your favourite entries. Please indicate in the online booking form if you would like to take part in this and submit your photo in JPEG format and good resolution with a brief caption explaining what the photo represents to info.lahp@london.ac.uk by 23rd April.

Prizes: By joining the 3-minute thesis competition and the photo competition, you will have the opportunity to win Waterstones vouchers. £100 for the winner and £75 for the runner up for both competitions! We will also be announcing the Public Engagement Prize winner (£200 Waterstones voucher) and up to two runners up (£50 Waterstones vouchers) at this event – the deadline to apply for this is 30th April. More details on the Public Engagement Prize and how to apply can be found here

Music:

The Royal College of Music are hosting us in their wonderful Performance Hall, and we would like to invite any musicians amongst the LAHP cohort to perform at the end of the day with a short set. If you are interested in performing, please confirm by email and send details of your performance to info.lahp@london.ac.uk by 23rd April.

The full programme details will follow once student presentations are confirmed.
