Scientific Modelling and Knowledge Conversion: A Comparative Study of Representation StylesMy research project focuses on the epistemological role of models in science as forms of representation. The central research purpose is to investigate the conversion of knowledge about scientific models into knowledge about what those models represent, i.e. their targets. By carrying out a systematic comparative study on a selected pool of scientific models that are employed in physics and biology, the project aims at tracing recurrent patterns of representational styles, as well as at exploring the several, complex epistemic operations involved in knowledge conversion from models to targets.
