Cultural Intermediaries in Pan African Performance Networks: Building Cultural Agency in a Globalised Space

This thesis will identify and explore four Cultural Intermediaries, each from a different country in Africa, looking at their role in establishing and maintaining networks within the creative economies and furthering the professionalisation of the industry in post-independent Senegal, Gambia, Nigeria and post-apartheid South Africa. It is envisaged the outcome of this research will be a theoretical model for developing the role and infrastructure of creative intermediaries, with a view to creating pathways for succession, sustainability and professional development within the African continent and internationally.
