The Role of Photography in the Construction of the Self and in the Creation of Personal Histories among Blind and Partially Sighted Individuals

This study will delve into the intertwining of visual representation, photography, and self- archiving in order to examine how individual narratives about the past develop in the case of blindness. In particular, this research will analyse what role photography plays in the crystallisation of sightless individuals’ personal histories into a sense of self. Finally, it will question and possibly challenge the assumption that sight is the privileged pathway to memory and to the construction of personhood.
